To All Hands and All Stations,

For immediate release:

I want to invite you to view and share with your shipmates and family a video sponsored by the Tin Can Sailors Association (used with permission) that appeals to everyone to help donate and support the historic museum Destroyer fleet. The one organization dedicated to the memory and history of Destroyers, TCS is leading an effort to support the long-term preservation of USS Laffey, USS The Sullivans, USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr, USS Kidd, USS Turner Joy, and others.

This video was filmed aboard the USS Joseph P. Kennedy Jr (DD-850) during our May 2010 Major field day. We are honored that Tin Can Sailors utilized the efforts aboard KENNEDY as a quality example of the importance of our nations Destroyer fleet. It also gives you a excellent idea of the difficulties with these ships, current views of DD-850, and efforts during a field day.

02-Sep-09 Veteran's Links This page has been updated to include a link to Mesothelioma Web. Mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the lining of the lung, is caused by exposure to asbestos. Many veterans have been exposed to asbestos during their time in the military. Because of long dormancy periods, mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases can remain undetected for over a decade before the patient shows any signs of illness. An exposure of as little as one or two months can result in mesothelioma 30 or 40 years later.

For ten years, Mesothelioma Web has been one of the most comprehensive sites on asbestos and mesothelioma, providing information and support to those who have been exposed to asbestos. Mesothelioma Web has also achieved HON (Health On the Net) code approval (HON is a non-profit organization focused on providing health information that respects ethical standards).

This link will take you directly to Mesothelioma Web, where you can learn more about asbestos and asbestos-related diseases.
